You Are Not Alone

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of people who share their experience, strength, and hope with one another so they may solve their common problem and help others recover from alcoholism.

A.A. members understand the difficulty of asking for help because they have faced problems with alcohol themselves. Members support one another by sharing what they experienced, what helped them stop drinking, and how they live without alcohol today.

There are no membership fees or dues. A.A. is not affiliated with any religion, treatment center, political organization, or other outside group.

The only requirement for A.A. membership is a desire to stop drinking.

About A.A.

What Happens at an A.A. Meeting?

At an A.A. meeting, you will hear people talk about:

  • What drinking was like for them
  • How alcohol affected their lives
  • What they did to stop drinking
  • How they stay sober today

You are not required to speak. You may listen and decide for yourself whether anything you hear applies to you.

Open A.A. meetings are available to anyone interested in learning about Alcoholics Anonymous. Closed meetings are for people who have a desire to stop drinking.

Take the First Step

If you want to stop drinking or are concerned about your drinking, help is available.

Reaching out does not commit you to anything. It simply gives you the opportunity to speak with someone who understands.

Concerned About Someone Else?

Alcoholics Anonymous helps people who want to address their own drinking.

If you are affected by someone else’s drinking, Al-Anon Family Groups may be able to help. Al-Anon provides support for the families and friends of people with drinking problems.

A Note About Immediate Medical Needs

Alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous. If you are experiencing severe symptoms, believe you may be in immediate danger, or need medical assistance, contact a qualified healthcare professional or emergency service.

Alcoholics Anonymous a program of recovery. It does not provide medical diagnosis, detoxification, or professional treatment.
